Hyped NFT Land projects that I’m watching
Hey guys so we’ve been having a bit of An nft land rush this year where the Meta versus this new frontier and Everybody’s running to claim their stake Early the two leaders currently are Decentraland and the sandbox both huge Multi-billion dollar platforms and People who bought into those early have Gotten pretty rich but we’re now seeing A new wave of demand a new energy for Nft land across a ton of smaller Competitors and so maybe you look around And you too want to be an nft landlord Sounds pretty cool right mtv cribs in The metaverse collecting rent tokens From cats and apes see an appreciation If the project grows and so on and look It’s not really far-fetched to say that A bunch of these traders could Potentially retire by buying land in the Right projects that’s just the world we Live in right now but as you know or i Hope you know 98 of these projects will Go to zero and so today we are going to Talk about what you need to know about Nft land in order to increase your Chances of buying in the right projects The top two percent that might actually Survive so first off we can’t just throw All the land projects in the same bucket Together okay that would be lazy it’s Like if somebody came to you and said That they were starting a fashion line And they wanted you to be a seed
Investor fashion isn’t enough you need To know more about the actual product That they’re selling like is it gonna be High fashion or are they selling Athleisure for yuppies that do yoga During their lunch break or are they Selling outfits for furries which i’m Told is booming right now the reason you Need to know this is because that’s Going to tell you what demographics are Targeting whether the team is a good fit For this type of product and who they’re Up against in terms of competition in Other words if you can get as specific As possible it’ll make it easier for you To see what actually needs to happen for This to be a success and when it comes To nft land we’ve already seen a few Models that have gained popularity the First one is the one you might be most Accustomed to seeing and it’s the Metaverse of metaversus or the gigaverse These are essentially platforms with Plots of land each of which can be Turned into its own game or a business Whatever the land owner wants to build The idealistic vision is a seamless 3d World that connects all the plots of Land together so think ready player one Where you can explore all these Different experiences from the same hub But this can also just be portals that Tie different servers together in a Cohesive way either way the idea is that
You build a platform that other creators Come and build more layers on top of and The value of the land is tied to the Value of the entire network as a whole If just one landowner creates something That becomes as big as say fortnite That’s going to increase the value of All the land in the network because it’s Going to bring more traffic to the game And that’s going to benefit everything Else that exists there now to be clear This is an experimental idea that has Never really existed the notion that you Can just create a blank canvas and Creators are going to be incentivized to Come and build there even when you have No player base that’s never worked Before you might say that consoles are The closest thing to that but every Console has benefited a ton from first Party titles so nintendo had super mario Xbox had halo and sony had the last of Us but as of yet we haven’t seen Anything like that from some of these Bigger virtual worlds okay they’re Really just depending on user generated Content from the people that buy the Land now that doesn’t mean it’s Impossible and if they get it right the Upside is huge okay so if one of these Gets to a certain size they might get The network effects where it’s going to Attract top creators and more brands and That just could create an amazing growth
Loop okay so now let’s talk about Category 2 which is game land now this One’s even more straightforward Basically you start with a fun game and Then you extend that out to nft land That plays some role within that game One example that already exists is axi Infinity and this is a game that started With a core game loop which were these Turn based monster battles and then they Created an economy around breeding and Fighting to make it play to earn and Then the next phase is bringing in land As a core part of the game in this case People who are buying up the land are Doing so because they’re betting on the Core axiomfinity game and so if more People play ax infinity and if the land Is woven together in an elegant way then The value of the land should presumably Go up another example is legacy which is An upcoming game being released by gala Games where you can build businesses by Inventing products and optimizing your Production and this is being developed By peter molyneux who is the guy behind The popular fables series and so the Idea with gameland is that you start With the content because content is king And so people already want to be a part Of your metaverse because it’s fun and Then you’re just building the land as an Extension for example we do know that Epic games is planning on jumping into
The metaverse and they raised a lot of Money last year and they’re probably Quietly building something as we speak But in this case they already had Fortnite which is one of the most Popular games in the world and once they Had that they started to branch out Slowly into concerts and soon maybe Entire sub worlds under the fortnite Umbrella okay now the third category is What i would call casual metaverses or Lobby worlds and this one could be a Sleeper hit these were some of the Earliest online games where you could Create your own avatar and jump into a Virtual world with other players that You can interact with and they were Normally built around a chat experience With some light gameplay so for example In the case of coke music people would Mix songs and then play them in rooms For other people if you got enough Upvotes because people liked your songs Then you could use that as a currency to Then buy items to decorate your room Sort of how hitting the like button lets Me add more decorations to my room so Please help me afford some of these Essentials but anyways people could Decorate their own little spot and there Were open channels that you could just Drop into and based on how many people Entered your room your channel might Rise to the top of the main charts which
Was just a great feeling despite how Simple it all was in a minute i’ll show You an nft that is trying to recreate Some of this casual magic and i do think There’s room for something like this to Emerge and do well even if it’s not a Large scale high fidelity world all Right so those are the major categories And i know that’s not exhaustive and There’s all these weird little edge Cases so if you know of a project that’s Doing something unique let me know in The comments below but now that you know The main buckets the next step is taking A specific project and then asking what Are you trying to be because that’s Gonna help you as we said understand What needs to happen for them to succeed For example if it’s a gigaverse like Sandbox or nft worlds then a big part of The success will come down to their Business development they’ll probably Have a token and can they convince other Brands to build interesting experiences And ideally integrate that token for Their in-game items on the other hand if It’s a game then you probably need less Business development and better game Developers and economists because not Only are you building a game which is Already hard but you’re also adding an Economy which if it breaks then it’ll Kill the value of all the in-game land Axi infinity is a great example of this
Okay so it’s the biggest play to earn Game ever and last summer it was a talk Of the town in terms of how successful This new model can be but more recently They’ve been having troubles with their In-game economy and their in-game token Sop has dropped 95 percent from its peak And this is forcing developers to make Sweeping changes to the game to bring Players back once you understand what Kind of land project this is and who They’re competing against then the next Step is to look at the team and Determine if they have a track record or Some kind of advantage in building out This world okay with all that said let’s Turn to a couple of projects that i’ve Never mentioned on this channel before Keep in mind none of these are ever Sponsored i’m just highlighting them Because i think they’re doing something Interesting and i personally haven’t Bought into these yet i might in the Future but please do your own research So the first project i want to talk About is turf which i think falls in the Lobby world bucket and so basically turf Is going to be a 2d virtual city with 5041 plots of land and within that Collection you have 150 different types Of properties so some look like Apartments some are gas stations or fire Stations basketball courts and so on and The idea here is that at its core this
Is going to be a chat based experience And so you have an avatar that Represents your actual nft and then you Can interact with other people as they Put it turf is a place where all of the Rune wizards sharks doodles cool cats And their pfp friends live as one big Community the advantage that the team Thinks they have is their ability to Quickly develop layers on top of the Core turf experience so quote we want to Build novel experiences for our users so That turf always feels fresh our meta Layers will be reflections upon the Ever-evolving zeitgeist of the web3 Space so let me sum up what i know about This project so the first application is Going to be built around this virtual Chat so maybe think of discord except With the better user interface you know More interactive and with nft Integrations in a twitter space the Founder said that they could potentially Release an alpha in four to five months And once the chat app is done then the Next phase is to bring in what they call Meta layers and metal layers are Basically mini game experiences that They’re going to integrate into the World so think of a fortnight battle Pass with seasons that have different Little events and features and these Meta layers will be inspired by Whatever’s happening in web 3. so when
Wolf game pops up and you’re getting all These wolf game copycats maybe they Release a wolf game metal layer that Brings some of those features for an Event inside the game so you can imagine All these mini game experiences being Built on top of this chat application And that’s going to keep the world Changing and evolving and give people a Reason to keep logging in and if we look At the team the founder is a ux designer And a pixel artist who previously Created turf as a location based game on Foursquare over a decade ago so they’ve Been around the block in terms of Polishing game apps and you know they’ve Learned from experience what works what Doesn’t work and i think this gives them An advantage over some of the other Newbie founders in the space but of Course they’re not the only ones Tackling this genre and the leader in The space is probably world wide web and So you need to look out for some of These other competitors okay so the Other project i want to talk about is Critters and this one got a bit of hype Recently when alex becker tweeted about Them which led to a huge initial spike Followed by a drop back to its previous Levels which kind of shows you that you Probably shouldn’t blindly follow Influencers and so critters is a play to Earn game using a minecraft server as
Its base and so you buy land you build Things and then they’ll add meta games That everyone’s going to engage with We’ve seen this minecraft trend get Ignited recently by nft worlds and we’ll Probably see more projects down the road And the reason is because you can Leverage a game that everybody loves It’s the best-selling game of all time With over 200 million copies sold and it Already has an extensive library of open Source mods and building techniques now The difference between nft worlds and Critters is that critters falls into That game land bucket and so they’re not Really trying to compete with mega Platforms like nft worlds although they Might compete with individual worlds From that platform okay so currently you Can buy these genesis critters which are These pixel characters that are fully on Chain in other words all the art can be Replicated using the code stored on Ethereum so you don’t need any third Parties they also rely on a staking System so as you can see here critters Nfts need to be staked to unlock certain Unique mechanics including access to the Critters minecraft world generating Blocks using in-game playtime and Renting out unused state critters to Other players for a share of their block Generation now what is block well it’s The in-game currency for critters that
You can use to buy in-game items things That you just need for the world or to Build up your own land and recently they Opened up a marketplace where you can Buy and sell virtually any minecraft Asset for blocks and actually it’s Pretty impressive that they ship Something out this polished already and On the renting side as we see here when Critters are staked players will Received an s critters token by default The s critters tokens are used to Generate block from minecraft gameplay However when players take breaks from Minecraft these as critters can be Listed on a secondary market to be Rented out and when you rent one of These tokens to someone else you’ll keep Earning a third of all the tokens that They’re generating while playing Minecraft now in addition to the Characters you can also buy land plot Nfts and there’s a max supply of 22 500 And they’re currently selling for 0.13 Each moving on to the team the founder Is doxxed and they have some startup Experience and have gone through y Combinator which is an a tier Accelerator for startups to be honest It’s not the type of extensive track Record that fits perfectly with what They’re building but at least you have a Face to the project which does reduce The likelihood that this is an outright
Scam or rug pull which is something We’re all learning to navigate nowadays It’s still early and we have to see how They handle challenges that come their Way so for example players are currently Complaining that the server has issues And that they can’t handle the number of Players that they’re getting which Results in a laggy and almost unplayable Experience now i’m sure they’re gonna Have a solution to that at some point But as a team scales they’re definitely Gonna need some brilliant technical team Members to keep it all together although I do like that they’re being very Transparent with the road map items Which i wish more teams would do beyond That in this case you also have the risk Of microsoft looming over the project Because none of these crypto projects Have gotten the full green light to Commercialize minecraft in this way now If you talk to people that hold the nfts In these projects they’re gonna tell you That microsoft has been hands off in the Past and so this risk is tiny or even Non-existent i’m not really sure i’m Convinced by that and until i see a Contract or a public statement from Microsoft saying that they’re going to Be neutral then i still consider this a Risk that you should realize before you Buy in alright guys that’s it for today Thanks for watching and i’ll catch you
